Firefighter sustains minor injuries while extinguishing a fire on the roof of the Valley View shopping center | Local News

A firefighter was slightly injured putting out a blaze Saturday morning at the Valley View Mall.

At approximately 6:57 a.m. on April 16, the La Crosse Fire Department responded to a possible fire on the roof of the Valley View Mall building. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the roof on the north side of the building.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and contain the fire in the area, with little expansion into the rest of the building. 17 firefighters, La Crosse Police Department, Tri State Ambulance and Xcel Energy assisted.

Investigators from the La Crosse Fire Department were on scene and determined the fire was caused by welding materials used during construction.

A firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.
