Groundswell Expanded Market opens April 15

Located in historic Tiverton Four Corners, Groundswell is a multi-building food + grocery + home + garden destination that opened November 1, 2020. You may have missed the opening amid the pandemic, but Groundswell must be on your must-visit list this spring.

An expanded Table + Provisions store is set to open on April 15, according to Molly Lux, COO of Groundswell, and it’s the perfect reason to pop into Tiverton for one of the county’s most unique shopping and dining experiences. of Newport.

Groundswell’s cafe and bakery section occupies the cornerstone building in Tiverton that once housed Provender Fine Foods at the intersection of Main & Puncatest Neck Roads. Well worth a trip to Tiverton just to admire the beautiful interior design work of the cafe alone – a Parisian style restaurant with a modern retro vibe. Owners David Fierabend and John McDowell also own Groundswell Design Group, a design firm specializing in public spaces, hospitality and residential projects, and their design expertise and place-making skills are on full display throughout the property. . The Tiverton destination is the latest addition to their impressive portfolio of projects across the country, including Great Jones Distilling Co. in New York and the Hangar 1 vodka distillery located in a former airplane hangar in Alameda, California.

“We have extensive experience designing hospitality projects through our design firm and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring our vision to life in the Tiverton area that we have loved for so long,” said declared Lux. “We were inspired by the region and our travels in Europe, particularly in Paris and London.”

The Groundswell Cafe and Bakery sources local ingredients and offers fresh breads, pastries, organic coffee and prepared-from-scratch lunches and breakfasts to enjoy indoors, outdoors near their patio fire pits or take out. All dishes are inspired by European travels and Rhode Island’s agricultural heritage.

Beyond the delicious coffees, pastries, and breakfast and lunch offerings, you’ll find plenty of adorable, locally sourced items at the Groundswell Garden + Home shop across the street as well as the Table shop. + Provisions (the section planned for a grand reopening and expansion in the 15th) next door. While the pandemic initially hampered plans to open Groundwell, the team is now preparing for an expansion to accommodate the growing crowd of visitors to Tiverton Four Corners now that word is out. “We delayed our opening for a while at the start of the pandemic, but eventually couldn’t wait any longer,” Lux said. “The pandemic affected some of our coffee service models for a while, and as a small store at first we could only offer takeout, but we were fortunately able to return to a more normal service format. lately. weeks.”

If you don’t have an immediate need to shop, you can always head to Groundswell to just hang out, relax and catch up with friends. “We also serve wine and beer to customers dining in the cafe!” Lux said. “As we enter warmer seasons this spring and summer, a glass of wine on the cafe porch is the perfect place to spend an afternoon.”

Groundswell Cafe + Bakery hours are currently listed as Tuesday-Sunday, 7am-4pm (kitchen open until 3pm), while the Garden + Home store is open Tuesday-Sunday, 9am-4pm to 4 p.m.

In addition to the grand reopening of Groundswell’s expanded Table + Provisions shop on the 15th, the Groundswell team may have other plans to announce in the near future. “We are enjoying our three stores here in Tiverton, but we also have some exciting things planned for the future,” Lux said. “Nothing we can share at this time, but stay tuned!”
