Ocala, FL – A field of 45 international participants gathered at the WEC Grand Arena under the lights to challenge for $75,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Grand Prize. FEI Level III Course Designer Catsy Cruz (MEX) constructed the elaborate courses which featured three challenging double combinations that surprised many competitors throughout the evening. Twelve pairs qualified for the jump-off and five went double clear, but the night belonged to Rowan Willis (AUS) who leapt to victory aboard his own Wellington Gray Goose (Corlensky x Grandira).

It was a winning day for Willis who previously led Buddy to victory in the $10,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prize.

Willis and Wellington Gray Goose were the seventh pair to descend the ramp to the WEC Grand Arena, producing a fast and clear first lap in 74.146 seconds, well within the 81 second time limit.

“GOOSE [Wellington Grey Goose] is an incredible horse. I was lucky to have bred her in England, but she was very difficult as a young horse. It took time and some amazing people to bring her to where she is now. She’s really paying for all those tough years and now she’s amazing,” Willis said.

Willis and Wellington Gray Goose soared around the play-off track, delighting spectators with their go-for-broke style and stopping the play-off clock at 36.160 seconds, a time that proved impossible to catch.

“I really trust Goose, so I knew I could have a tough time, because I know there were really fast riders behind me,” Willis said. I was just trying to be as fast as possible so I could finally win one.

“I always have the best time to show here,” he added. “There is always a good peloton of riders and a good atmosphere. It’s really fun to compete here and have the crowd behind us. That makes it great for us riders, and it forces us to try harder.

Second place went to Lauren Crooks and Louisiana Van De Moortelshoeve (Bamako De Muze x Wokina Van De Moortelshoeve). Crooks and the 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare clocked a smooth first lap in 78.062 seconds. The duo were the fifth horse-rider combination to return for the jump-off and cleared each fence with ease in just 37.873 seconds.

Dorothy Douglas and Davenport Farm’s MTM Through The Looking Glass (Arkan x Roshai’s Last Tango) were the last pair on the opening lap to deliver a clean run in 77.228 seconds. Douglas and the 14-year-old KWPN mare closed the $75,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Grand Prix with a blistering shoot-off effort, taking neat inside turns to stop the clock at 38.207 seconds for third place.

Santiago Lambre and Cetano Van Aspergem Z received the award for the four fastest fouls in the $75,000 CaptiveOne Advisors Grand Prix, clocking 69.141 seconds in the first lap, with one try.

Anne Bingler received the “Chance du draw” prize of $5,000.
