JGC Corp. receives an order for the modernization project of a refinery in Iraq

JGC Holdings Corp. announced that JGC Corp., which operates the overseas engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business of JGC Group, has received the award letter for the Basrah Refinery Modernization Project for an Iraqi oil refining company under the Iraqi oil ministry.

This modernization of the Basrah refinery will newly install, on land adjacent to the existing Basrah refinery, a fluid catalytic cracking unit, a vacuum distillation unit, a diesel desulfurization unit, etc., thus bringing production to 19,000 b / d of gasoline and 36,000 b / d of diesel.

The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

Funding for the project will be secured through Japanese ODA loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and this is the largest reconstruction aid for Japan since the 2003 Iraq war.

As part of this project, the Group plans to provide skills training to over 1,000 Iraqis and hire around 7,000 Iraqi skilled workers. In addition, it is expected that more than 2000 operational staff jobs will be created after the completion of the project.
